Students attend GIS conference in Chicago
Five GIS Students accompanied by RMI Project Coordinator, Kathy Shoalmire, attended the three day Gamma Iota Sigma International Conference in Chicago, IL on October 8-11. Those attending were Ally Savransky, President; Kristen Miller, Vice President of Recruitment; C J Hyers, Vice President of Compliance, Madison Kendrick, Vice President of Membership; and Kristen Collier, Vice President of Professional Development. The team hit the ground running with back-to-back management workshops all afternoon on Thursday. An evening reception hosted by AIG gave the students an opportunity to meet and mingle with over 500 of their fellow students from 50 other universities throughout the country. Friday morning came early with breakfast guest speaker, Patrick J. Gallagher, Chairman, President and CEO of Arthur J. Gallagher. The day was filled with seminars on current topics in the Insurance, Risk Management and Actuarial Science industries. Throughout the day, students had an opportunity for interviews along with the GIS Career Fair which featured over 45 vendors. The evening was capped with the awards dinner at the Navy Pier in downtown Chicago. Saturday was set-aside as a Day of Service where students were bused to various locations for their projects. Our students were assigned to clean-up a downtown park. Saturday evening was a time of coming together of all the chapters with chapter roll call which allowed each chapter to showcase their university through a video, skit or verbal introduction. It was a great opportunity for the students to enhance their professional networking as well as gain ideas on how to build and strengthen our new chapter.

Ally Savransky, President of Mu Chapter, attends GIS Leadership Conference
Ally Savransky, President of the Mu Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma, attended the GIS Leadership Conference that took place in Columbus, OH in August. The conference provides its attendees with valuable insight into how to manage a successful GIS chapter and allows chapter leaders to network with one another. When asked about her experience, Savransky responded, "I didn't really know what to expect when I went, but it ended up being very beneficial...The relationships that I formed with other chapters' presidents and the knowledge I gained by attending the conference has really helped me and the Mu Chapter executive committee begin to develop the foundation for a strong chapter. It also gave me an incentive to encourage others to choose Risk Management and Insurance as a major."
